Your Child’s Health

Delaware Physicians Care has a program to prevent or identify health problems for children from birth to age 21. This program is based on regular checkups for your children even when they are well.

At a Well-Child Check-up your child’s PCP will:

  • Do a complete physical exam
  • Check your child’s development and nutrition
  • Check your child’s vision, hearing and teeth
  • Give baby shots at different ages
  • Do speech, hearing and eye exams
  • Do lab work in his/her office or refer your child to a contracted lab to have the lab work done
  • Give you health education and guidance about your child’s health care and development
  • Prescribe treatment your child may need

Parents should schedule Well-Child Check-ups as follows:

  • First visit at two (2) to three (3) days old
  • Six (6) additional visits during the first year of life
  • Two (2) visits in the second year of life
  • One (1) visit yearly from age 2 through 5
  • One (1) visit every other year from age 6 through 21
